Cholq'ij new year Meditation

ree

Today we celebrate the beginning of a new cycle of 260 days in the Sacred Cholq’ij Calendar.

We can begin this cycle with a meditation to harmonize ourselves with the 260 energies of the Sacred Cholq’ij. Before starting, we can place candles to form our sacred circle: a red candle in the East for the energy of Fire and its guardians B’alam Ki’tze’ and Kaja Paluna; a black candle in the West for the energy of Earth and its guardians B’alam Aq’ab’ and Chomija; a white candle in the North for the energy of Wind and its guardians Majuk’utaj and Tz’ununija’; a yellow candle in the South for the energy of Water and its guardians Ik’i B’alam’ and Kaqixaja’; and blue and green candles in the center for Uk’u’x Kaj and Uk’u’x Ulew, Heart of the Sky and of the Earth.

Let us inhale and exhale twenty times and feel how with each breath each of our four bodies —physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional— is cleansed and energized.

Let us close our eyes and visualize how the energy of the 20 Ch’umilab' and the 13 numbers arrives into the space where we are, how all their power and knowledge flows through us and vibrates with our body, spirit, mind, and heart. It does not matter if we are not deeply familiar with the powers and wisdom each Ch’umil and number brings, or if we visualize them as glyphs, animals, colors, energies, or whatever our intuition suggests; what matters is to feel their presence and vibrate with them.

Let us allow these energies to bring us the wisdom we need to journey through these coming 260 days and help us develop our inner powers. Let us feel how each of these energies surrounds and sustains us, forming a circle that connects us to all sacred time.

Let us slowly open our eyes and perceive how we are now in harmony with all the energy around us, how we are in tune with the Ch’umilab' and the numbers, and how our being vibrates with the strength of this new cycle and a new year. Let us take a moment to give thanks for the previous cycle, for all it brought, and for the experiences this new cycle will bring for our development.
